Nothing Now Remains is an a cappella meditation on the fragile boundary between sound and silence. The text draws on scattered lines from public-domain poetry, assembled less as a narrative than as fleeting fragments of language and image. The choir is treated as a single resonant instrument, with whispered consonants, breath, and sustained vowels gradually forming a rich, densely layered texture through extensive divisi. Rather than moving through dramatic harmonic changes, the music unfolds slowly within a limited harmonic field, allowing shifts of timbre, resonance, and collective breath to shape the musical arc. As the piece progresses, the texture gradually thins, returning toward the quiet from which it emerged and leaving the listener with the sense of sound dissolving back into silence.
